Bayer Leverkusen's Unbeaten Run Ends at 49 in Thrilling Europa League Semi-Final

Bayer Leverkusen's record-breaking unbeaten streak of 49 games came to an end on Thursday, May 9, 2024, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by AS Roma in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final.

Despite the setback, Leverkusen advanced to their first European final in over a decade, courtesy of their 3-2 aggregate victory.

In front of a sold-out BayArena, Leverkusen started brightly and took an early lead through Moussa Diaby's strike in the 15th minute. However, Roma grew into the game and equalized through Tammy Abraham's header just before half-time.

Both sides had chances to win the game in the second half, but neither could find a breakthrough. Leverkusen's unbeaten run, which spanned over 10 months, came to an end, but their hopes of lifting the Europa League trophy remain alive.

Bayer Leverkusen will now face Atalanta in the final, which will be held in Seville, Spain, on May 18. Leverkusen will be looking to win their first major European trophy since the UEFA Cup in 1988.
