Canadian wins silver in 200m
Andre De Grasse has advanced into the Olympic men's 200-metre semifinals after finishing second in his heat on Tuesday in Tokyo.
The decorated Canadian sprinter easily advanced to the 200-metre semifinals, finishing second to American Noah Lyles in a time of 20.30 seconds. Lyles won the heat in 20.19 seconds.
De Grasse, who won the bronze medal in the 200m at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, is one of the favorites to medal in Tokyo.
The 26-year-old from Markham, Ont., has been in good form this season, running a personal best of 19.80 seconds in June.
He will be looking to add to his Olympic medal count in the 200m semifinals, which are scheduled for Wednesday.
In other Canadian track and field news, Damian Warner finished second in the decathlon 100m on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old from London, Ont., ran a time of 10.31 seconds, finishing behind Grenada's Lindon Victor (10.26 seconds).
Warner is the reigning world champion in the decathlon and is one of the favorites to win gold in Tokyo.
