Were All Young And Hungry Michigan Wide Receivers Confident Heading Into Game Week

'We're all young and hungry': Michigan wide receivers confident heading into game week

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy has a simple message for his young group: It's time to eat.

With the Wolverines set to open the season Saturday against Colorado State, Bellamy is looking for his receivers to take a big step forward in 2023.

After Michigan had one of the most productive passing attacks in the country over the last two seasons, many thought the offense could take a step back after losing some of its top playmakers.

But Bellamy is confident in his group, which is led by sophomore J.J. McCarthy and a talented group of receivers.

  • "We're all young and hungry," Bellamy said. "We're ready to prove ourselves."
  • Michigan's receiving corps is led by sophomore Cornelius Johnson, who had 50 catches for 680 yards and four touchdowns last season.
  • Other key receivers include junior Roman Wilson, sophomore A.J. Henning, and freshman Darrius Clemons.

Bellamy said he likes the versatility of his group, which he believes can be a strength for the Wolverines this season.

"We have guys who can play inside and outside," Bellamy said. "We have guys who can run deep and guys who can make plays after the catch."

The wide receivers will be counted on to help McCarthy make a smooth transition to the starting quarterback role.

"J.J. is a great quarterback," Bellamy said. "He's accurate, he's smart, and he's a leader. I think he's going to be a great player for us."

The wide receivers are confident that they can help McCarthy and the Wolverines have a successful season.

"We're all excited to get the season started," Bellamy said. "We're ready to show the world what we can do."
